In my paintings and drawings, pictorial languages of representation and narration pose questions about current social circumstances and practices. By taking familiar subjects out of their conventional contexts, I ask the viewer to consider the metaphoric role of the commonplace and the overlooked. Renewed within the image, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, asking us to reconsider our own role within our surrounding landscape.

My artistic practice is driven by an interdisciplinary engagement that is informed by correspondence throughout the arts, humanities and sciences. I am deeply interested in the current direction of painting and drawing, particularly the return to representation, and what this piqued interest in realism says to an increasingly virtual society. My primary goals in art, research and teaching are to trigger questions, evoke contemplation, and inspire response.
